The "Appliancising" of Free Software

,----[ Quote ]
| Five years from now, we'll have "the end of the desktop," which has been
| predicted for years now. It won't really be dead, but phones, netbooks, and
| Zonbu-like appliances will take a good share of it.

What is Eee PC? Is it a desktop? Is it an appliances? Either way, many people
use it.

EeePC Skin / Linux Mint

,----[ Quote ]
| This isn't outdoors at all, really its just the opposite. But we have a mini
| laptop (EeePC), running Linux. I updated the laptop the other day and put a
| version of Linux called Linux Mint. You're probably thinking to yourself
| right now, what it in the world is Linux and why is Fred a nerd. Well Linux
| is a operating system like windows but its Free and way cooler, but I'm not
| sure why I'm a nerd. Here is a screen shot of my current desktop on my EeePC.

Where does Linux go from here?

,----[ Quote ]
| Linux and free software are here to stay. No single commercial firm will ever
| control the Linux ecosystem like Microsoft has the rest of the software
| industry. Though both may prosper, the bazaar will outlive the boardrooms,
| and Linux popularity will continue to grow on servers, desktops, appliances,
| and embedded devices.
