Linux Mint 6

,----[ Quote ]
| The number of Mint-specific additions in this release is impressive. It's
| good to see that the team isn't just focused on slapping on a different coat
| of paint and calling it a day. More offshoot distributions should follow this
| example. Don't just embrace, extend as well!
|
| In the past I've been both impressed and disappointed by Mint because
| although it added several useful out-of-the-box features to a solid Ubuntu
| base, it just wasn't different enough for me to justify using it over its
| parent. This release has a number of substantive differences that if further
| developed will address that issue quite nicely.

Linux Mint 6 ScreenShots

| I must say Linux Mint seems to always impress me with every new release. In
| this release Linux Mint has brought to us a new software manager called
| MintInstall, which allows you to browse the Mint Software portal offline, see
| screenshots that are available per package, and much more. Linux Mint has
| also brought you MintNanny, which allows you to control what domains are
| blocked.

First Experience of Linux Mint

,----[ Quote ]
| Overall I am very impressed with Linux Mint. It may not be the version for
| hardcore Linux geeks but I find it more user friendly that Ubuntu. If, like
| me, you have an old machine that is a little sluggish then this really is a
| great OS for it.

Linux Mint

| You might be wondering why you’re reading something about Linux in a blog
| related to design.  I’m about to answer that question.
|
| I’ve always had a geeky side which has led to experimentation with other
| operating systems, such as FreeBSD, Solaris, and Linux.  I had a brief period
| about three years ago where I got rid of Windows completely and used Linux
| for about a year.  I had to go back to Windows to be able to run stuff like
| Flight Simulator (a secret addiction of mine), among others.  I also got
| tired of troubleshooting stuff.  When things work, Linux is great.  When
| something breaks, it can be a nightmare.
|
| [...]
|
| Congratulations to the Mint team for putting together a visually appealing
| Linux distribution that is easy to use. It seems that the Linux community is
| starting to focus on the graphical aspect of their things, which is great
| news for everyone.  There’s nothing wrong with functional stuff.  The
| question is, why not make functional stuff that also looks good?

Mint 6 RC1 on the Acer Aspire One

,----[ Quote ]
| Codenamed "Felicia",Mint 6 is due to arrive this month, and RC1 is already
| available over at http://linuxmint.com.
|
| Mint 6 is built off the solid basis of Ubuntu 8.10, and inherits most of its
| goodness, and layers on the extras that make Mint my favorite Distro right
| now. I'll have a post up soon over at TalkBMC about using Mint 6 as the main
| office distro. This one is about Mint on the Acer Aspire One (AAO) though..

Linux Mint Fluxbox Leaves A Very Pleasant Taste

,----[ Quote ]
| LM5 FCE is a great piece of work. It takes a distribution that is justifiably
| very highly thought of, keeps all the best bits and adds something extra
| special - the speed, flexibility and stability of Fluxbox but with that Linux
| Mint eye toward user-friendliness.

25 reasons to use Linux Mint

,----[ Quote ]
| At least, people understand what it means, Mint. With Ubuntu... (Ubuntu is
| also an award granted to Fidel Castro this year!)
|
| It's not brown. No, really, it's not brown! Brown was interesting in October
| 2004, but four years later and still brownish...
|
| It features the most elegant, business-like desktop of all the Linux
| distributions, right out of the box. Most people would not bother to get rid
| of the default look (theme, icons, wallpaper, GDM splash, boot splash,
| whatever). Just look at home many Windows XP boxes are displaying the
| horrendous blue window decorations, with red close buttons and the green
| Start button, although changing to the more business-like Windows 2000 look
| is a simple task.
|
| Multimedia codecs, browser plugins, DVD playback, and so on, out of the box.
| I mean, out of the box. No fuss.

Review: Linux Mint 5 - KDE Edition

,----[ Quote ]
| Overall, I liked Mint 5 KDE, especially with the added speed and upgraded
| default non-compiz eyecandy.  It's good and stable, and works well with
| everything I could throw at it from a new and normal user's collective
| standpoints.  And it's easily shown again why Linux Mint has become my new
| number one favorite Linux distribution for new users, overtaking PcLinuxOS
| with a blast of gusto for the top spot on my list.  It's most certainly worth
| checking out.

Linux Mint 4.0 Daryna KDE Community Edition

,----[ Quote ]
| You see I've always looked upon Mint with confusion; as a derivative of
| Ubuntu I never quite understood why it existed. Sure there was a time where
| preloading codecs and software was a desirable thing but now days everyone
| has tackled that problem in different ways - thus making "out of the box"
| releases like Mint a little redundant. There are some really interesting
| things about Mint that deviate from that stereotype massively.

Release Notes for Linux Mint 4.0 Daryna KDE Community Edition, by Jamie Boo
Birse

,----[ Quote ]
| Daryna KDE is nearly as minty as the main edition now. The packages are
| (safely) upto date and the kernel is the Gutsy Gibbon kernel 2.6.22-14.

Linux Mint 5.0 Light Review

,----[ Quote ]
| This month’s Linux Format Magazine had Linux Mint as one of the Linux distros
| on the DVD.  I’ve been hearing a lot of people talk about this Ubuntu-based
| distro.  So Mint is based on Ubuntu which is based on Debian.  Why not just
| base Linux Mint off of Debian?  Ok, so given that it’s based off of Ubuntu
| and Ubuntu is becoming synonymous with Linux because it’s so easy to use, why
| would you want to use Linux Mint?

Review: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE Community Edition RC1

,----[ Quote ]
| After spending the day tinkering with Linux Mint 5 Xfce CE, I have to say
| this is a GREAT Linux distro. I prefer Xfce over GNOME and KDE because in my
| opinion, GNOME and KDE use too much memory and CPU power, while Xfce is much
| lighter on resources. There are other desktop environments which are even
| lighter than Xfce, but they aren’t as useful or as stable as Xfce. I am a
| little disappointed that Exaile and Gnomebaker are installed by default; I
| prefer Rhythmbox over Exaile and Sound Juicer over Gnomebaker. I give this a
| 9.5 out of 10
