| OpenSolaris and FreeBSD are great operating systems, however, Linux has come
| a long way and has so much to offer me today.

FreeBSD 7.0 review

,----[ Quote ]
| I've long since lost the hope of returning to FreeBSD as a desktop or server
| operating system on my computers. It's probably going to be Linux and OpenBSD
| for me from here on in, barring some revolutionary change in FreeBSD. But
| that's the trouble with FreeBSD -- like an addicted gambler, it keeps trying
| to raise the stakes and make big changes in every release to atone for time
| wasted on fixing old problems.

Review of FreeBSD 7

,----[ Quote ]
| FreeBSD has come a long way and has created great technical solutions to
| tough problems. The new scheduler will offer performance gains for years to
| come. New architectures are being added frequently, including Sun
| Microsystems Niagra processors, Apple Mac Books (and Mac-mini), and even an
| initial port to the Xbox platform.
|
| The future is bright for FreeBSD and I’m certainly looking forward to the
| pending 7.0 release and beyond. The 7.1 release will see the ULE scheduler
| enabled by default and should also see the inclusion of the new installer
| into the mainstream releases. The multi-processor scalability will continue
| with the next goal of linear scalability on sixteen cores. There are now more
| than seventeen thousand ports and, with the new and improved performance,
| FreeBSD makes a formidable desktop and server operating system.

In Open Source We Trust

,----[ Quote ]
| Today’s post though is disturbing. In A Question of Trust, he discusses a
| certain competitor, Cittio, is possibly not honoring the GPL and not
| disclosing to clients that they’re actually deploying a solution based on
| OpenNMS.
|
| [...]
|
| This is the sort of thing that the community-at-large deserves to know, hence
| the reason I’m posting this. It deserves our attention and I hope it is
| resolved quickly. The GPL is not a license to rip people off, and you guys
| deserve your just credit and recognition for your hard work and donations.

First look at FreeBSD 7.0

,----[ Quote ]
| So would FreeBSD 7.0 make a decent desktop system? I haven't run it long
| enough to be able to answer the question, but from my initial testing I would
| be perfectly happy to give it a more intensive try. It certainly looks like a
| nicely crafted system, with extreme attention to detail - at least when it
| comes to the kernel and userland.

Faster Performance, Fewer Machines For FreeBSD?

| "FreeBSD has the ability to run Linux programs without recompilation," Lucas
| explained. "For example, I use Adobe Acrobat Reader for Linux on my FreeBSD

What's New in FreeBSD 7.0

,----[ Quote ]
| Federico Biancuzzi interviewed two dozen developers to discuss all the cool
| details of FreeBSD 7.0: networking and SMP performance, SCTP support, the new
| IPSEC stack, virtualization, monitoring frameworks, ports, storage limits and
| a new journaling facility, what changed in the accounting file format,
| jemalloc(), ULE, and more.
