Everex Cloudbook Unboxed

,----[ Quote ]
| Everex's $400 Cloudbook comes in a neat little green box. It makes clear that
| the Google Appl-routing, gOS-branded Linux distro doesn't actually have
| anything to do with Google: the G is for Green!

No Windows key!

Here is a photo of the £99 Linux laptop (Elonex), which wasn't seen before:

| Elonex will launch the One at The Education Show in Birmingham on 28
| February. Unfortunately, it's keeping mum on the machine's full spec until
| then.

Latest Cloudbook availability details

,----[ Quote ]
| Also, the story of ZaReason was able to get its units first is much more
| complicated and interesting than what Kim says above. See their account here.
|
| WalMart.com - available February 21. No word from Kim if Wal-Mart stores will
| have 'em at the same time (but doubtful, as that involves even more
| shipping).
|
| NewEgg.com - "first week of March," wrote Kim.
|
| TigerDirect.com - ditto, according to Kim. Unclear whether that includes
| CompUSA, which was bought by TigerDirect's parent company. Kim had told me
| earlier that CompUSA stores re-opened after the bankruptcy sales finish could
| be a channel for Everex goods.
|
| But here's the most tantalizing bit of news: Kim said that "two other major
| retailers are in negotiation" on carrying the CloudBook, "but we haven't
| agreed on financial terms yet."

Everex ships Cloudbook after slight delay

,----[ Quote ]
| ZaReason, which distributes Everex products, said on its Web site Friday that
| the Cloudbook had sold out. Everex had shipped a few hundred Cloudbooks to
| ZaReason, Kim said. As of Friday, the PC was not yet available on TigerDirect
| or Newegg.

Future CloudBooks to Have Touch, SSD, 22-inch Screens?

,----[ Quote ]
| Everex’s first $399 ultraportable CloudBook is set to go on sale on February
| 15 at Walmart.com. The low-cost laptop takes direct aim at Asus’ Eee PC. But
| will Everex’s larger hard drive, better web-cam and a new improved Linux OS
| outshine the popular Eee PC? The Asus system has already sold close to
| 400,000 units.

How will Linux win the OS wars? From the bottom up!

,----[ Quote ]
| So therefore, best way to win the war of the operating systems is not to go
| after the high end market.
