Compiz Fusion Hacks

,----[ Quote ]
| Both of these are relatively simple modifications that are mainly to get
| acquainted with the Compiz code base, but even at that, the slicing effect
| still looks really good if I do say so myself.

Refresher Course: The Free Unix Desktop

,----[ Quote ]
| I installed Compiz and am going to try to configure X to look as sexy as the
| Sabayon system I played with, but I need to read a little more on setting up
| X first. It’s changed somewhat since the last time I had an Xwindows system.
|
| [...]
|
| As much as I am impressed with how much better the X desktop has become, I am
| even more impressed that my hardware was supported so well. I figured a new
| laptop would be problematic, and it just wasn’t the case. Back in the day you
| built a box with hardware in mind if you wanted sound, 3D graphics and
| networking on a free unix, and I fully expected to make some sacrifices to
| run FreeBSD or linux on the new laptop. At least on FreeBSD that has not been
| the case, and I was able to achieve my goal: get rid of Vista and not feel
| like I was giving up any functionality or creature comforts in doing so.

Linux appears to be the prettiest operating system at the moment (when
customised suitably). It just needs promotion, marketing, demos.

Five Compiz features to boost Linux productivity

,----[ Quote ]
| The cube is perhaps the most hyped feature of the 3D desktop. And,
| surprisingly, I found that once you actually start using it Cube is actually
| quite useful, and not just flashy. When cube is enabled you can use the
| Ctrl-Alt key combination together with mouse to rotate the cube and display
| all the desktops you have active. It is remarkably easy to use and actually
| makes it easier to switch through desktops rapidly.

Shelf Plugin preview

,----[ Quote ]
| I’ve been working on a new Compiz Fusion plugin currently known as Shelf (it
| was named miniwin2 for a brief period, more on this further down). This is a
| fairly straight forward idea, and I’m doing this as a bounty for Canonical.

How Beryl/XGL and Deskbar simplified my life

,----[ Quote ]
| I removed the standard Gnome Window List in favor of
| Beryl's Scale plugin. Beryl's Scale functionality
| resembles OSX's Expose functionality. Because the Scale
| plugin displays all the windows currently open and
| unminimized at a keypress, I can quickly find the
| window I want visually and select it either with
| the mouse or with the arrow keys.
