Linux Software Installation : Clear your Myths
,----[ Quote ]
| THE MYTHS
| The first problem which people face while switching over to Linux is
| the “unavailability of softwares” as they claim. They just try to run their
| windows installer/setup file and end up with frustration saying “Linux is so
| incompatible!” Is it really so? Linux is not a clone of Windows. Then how
| come you expect your softwares built specifically built for windows to run on
| Linux. Linux has its own OS architecture, filesystem, binary file format and
| many more.

Microsoft once produced showed a video where a guy who adds a network card
needs to recompile the kernel. They certainly love to spread such lies. Steve
Ballmer was in that video.

CMMI is not a secret code
,----[ Quote ]
| In the Linux world new users are often scared away by horror stories of
| having to compile their own programs. With todays distributions where there
| are, in the case of *buntu, over 20,000 pre-compiled programs to choose from
| and the need to compile your own programs is very rare. In fact about the
| only time you will compile your own programs is if you wish to use a
| different version than what the distributions repository supplies.

Top 5 Linux Myths
,----[ Quote ]
| The sheer ignorance regarding casual Linux users astounds me to no end. While

| 1. Linux Users Are Cheap. Ah, this is one of my favorites. It seems that
| Linux users have long since been seen as cheap, despite the fact that so many
| of them in the States earn up to six figures. First, define cheap? Are we
| cheap because we choose not to buy brand new everything with every release of
| our selected OS?

|
| GNU/Linux distributions like SuperGamer and the linuX-gamers Live DVD have
| solved this issue by providing some of the latest 3D, Arcade and other type
| games. Other major Linux distributions e.g. Sabayon Linux offer a huge
| collection of games for home users.

Are there inconvenient truths about Linux?
,----[ Quote ]
| A recent blog post entitled Confessions of a Linux Fan has provoked some
| discussion in the Linux community. In it, the author lists 10 things (10
| seems to be the preferred number of these kinds of posts) that new Linux
| users should be aware of. Though the author claims to be a Linux enthusiast,
| the 10 observations are actually just re-wordings of many of the classic
| arguments against using Linux.

Linux Truths, Half-Truths, and Myths

| When people find out I run Linux on my computer instead of Windows
| or even Mac OS X they sometimes have funny ideas about what it must
| be like. Some of it is historical; Linux used to be quite difficult
| to administer in its younger days. Some of it is misinformation,
| or no information at all. I hope to dispell some of the
| misconceptions.
