2007 Tech Year In Review
,----[ Quote ]
| Vista Launched and Wasn't liked
|
| In late January Windows Vista launched. Many news outlets thought people
| would be lining up for Vista, similar to the Wii launch, but as luck would
| have it, the biggest, and only, line was in New York City.

2007's Biggest Disappointment = Vista
,----[ Quote ]
| So what was the biggest disappointment of last year (2007)? Microsoft Windows
| Vista! Now it's not to say that it's a bad OS, it's just not all we expected
| it to be. We did get a new UI to make it prettier, and some extras like
| partition resizing in Disk Management, etc., but otherwise, it definitely
| feels more bloated and slower, and as a gamer, DX10 does nothing to improve
| my experience. SP2 may fix a few things, but until then, enjoy the bashing
| below...

Vista Revisited
,----[ Quote ]
| I’d mentioned earlier that the Vista Aero interface looked nice. This is
| strictly by Windows standards though. Anyone who has compiz installed on
| their Linux box will be sadly disappointed when they go to move one of those
| windows with the transparent glass-like window decorations only to find that
| wobbly windows or even the option to have them - just doesn’t exist. TheVista
| taskbar does give window previews on mouseover and the window changer does
| have a nice ring affect too.
|
| I had to jump through a few more hoops to get the shares on the Vista box to
| play nice with the XP machine - no problems from the Linux boxes though. I
| guess it will be a while before Redmond realizes that tightening “security”
| in this manner is really just more pretty decoration.

| Windows Vista: Where to begin? Vista arrived in stores months late, forced

Interesting comment from CompUSA
,----[ Quote ]
| Every single one of them he said was returned from consumers... and that they
| (CompUSA) couldn't ship them back. As he heard, Microsoft wasn't giving
| credit back for unsold or returned copies... and didn't want the returned
| figures made public... He wouldn't say that every single one of them
| exchanged for a copy of Xp, he didn't know if that was true. So, I asked how
| many boxes did they have. Same glare, followed with a "You do not want to
| know" type statement.
