SimplyMEPIS 7.0 is a keeper
,----[ Quote ]
| SimplyMEPIS has always been and remains one of my favorite Linux
| distributions because of its no-nonsense approach to the user desktop. It
| contains virtually all the things I desire in a desktop and does so in a
| logical and easy-to-use manner. Its selection of included software is
| well-rounded and intuitive without a lot of overlap. It is one of the rare
| systems that is equally appropriate for new users and the experienced. I
| always keep a version of SimplyMEPIS installed so that no matter what else I
| do to my laptop, I will always have at least one system that will work when I
| need it.
|
| SimplyMEPIS continues to be at the top of the short list of systems I
| recommend when asked which Linux distro to try. It is one of the best
| distributions available today. It is SimplyWONDERFUL.

SimplyMEPIS-7.0 - Beyond Dapper!
,----[ Quote ]
| In conclusion, the more attractive SimplyMEPIS 7.0 is lightning fast even
| though its graphical interface is powered by KDE 3.5.8. As a matter of fact,
| it feels faster and more stable than SimplyMEPIS 6.5. Setting up SimplyMEPIS
| 7.0 was super easy, as usual! I could easily surf the shared directory of
| SimplyMEPIS 7.0 from Windows XP once the installation was over, and I could
| also easily surf the shared directory of Windows XP from SimplyMEPIS 7.0.
| Almost zero effort was needed to make this work! Should you need a KDE
| desktop which can be easily set up within a few minutes, there no doubt that
| SimplyMEPIS 7.0 is the right choice.

MEPIS 7.0-rc2: See Fedora
,----[ Quote ]
| I tried MEPIS 6.0 and 6.5 a while back because it seemed like a good
| distribution. The best of Ubuntu, Debian, and Knoppix all rolled into one
| with some extra goodies a la Mint- who wouldn't want it? It turned out to be
| a decent distribution, but a solid one at best.
| All this is (hopefully- it's the last RC, but it's still just an RC) going to
| change with version 7.0.

Another Day Another Distro - Part 8 - SimplyMEPIS 7.0 Beta 6
,----[ Quote ]
| This time around I decided to try out another distribution I'd never used
| before in the shape of MEPIS. I started off with simplyMEPIS 6.5 which seemed
| a bit dated but luckily it was pointed out to me that 7.0 is due out very
| soon. I noticed simplyMEPIS 7.0 AntiX had been released recently but it's a
| lightweight distribution for older hardware and it's probably not fair to
| compare that to the larger distros directly. I might look at lightweight
| distros in their own right in future.

MEPIS founder clarifies MEPIS/Ubuntu relationship

The Neuros OSD: A New Paradigm for Consumer Devices?
,----[ Quote ]
| Surprisingly one of the media establishment's darling devices at the 2008
| Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is fully open, runs Linux and invites
| hacking - er, customization. The device is the Neuros OSD, a $200 video
| recorder that allows you to archive, organize and play back all of your video
| media, such as live television, DVDs, VHS tapes, etc. The acronym "OSD"
| stands for "open source device". Hot dog, this is our kind of gadget!

ArsGeek reviews the Neuros OSD
,----[ Quote ]
| The first two observations I made when I opened my Neuros OSD were that the
| unit was a lot smaller than I was expecting (about five and a half inches by
| five and a half inches in size) and that it looked nice. This was no flat
| looking boxy apparatus, nor was it a standard component. It was curved, it
| was sleek, black and more aerodynamic than any other DVR I’ve come across.
|
| I liked the size and the look immediately. Not only was this thing slick
| looking, but I could easily grab the RCA cables and the Neuros and bring it
| over to a friends house to watch whatever I’d recorded.

| Overall, Neuros seems to get it. Extensibility, plus a powerful product.

YouTube on the TV with the OSD
,----[ Quote ]
| Neuros is certainly not the only ones bringing net video to the TV, but we
| are probably the only CE company doing it with open source. Nowhere is the
| intersection between free software and free speech more obvious. If the
| connection between the internet and the TV falls into the hands of a
| proprietary vendor's closed solution, then the hard won free speech victory

Linux is running on APPLE TV

| I've got the linux kernel booting on my Apple TV. It was not easy,
| but after reading over the information on how they got it workin on

|
| There are sevral changes that need to be made to the lilo bootloader

| yet, but it gets pretty far before giving a kernel panic. There are
| still a lot of drivers missing that will need to be compiled in to

| Neuros is a device manufacturer with a simple focus: it creates devices that
