Kepas - KDE Easy Publish and Share

,----[ Quote ]
| Congratulations to Tom Patzig, currently serving in the openSUSE KDE Team,
| for the first release of Kepas: "Kepas is a KDE4 file transfer tool. It
| discovers your local LAN for buddies (KDNSSD) and lets you transfer files or
| Klipper entries from a tray icon or via drag'n'drop with the Kepas plasmoid."
| Please give him much feedback what to improve until 1.0!

Plasma now has some more front-end tools (from Aaron Seigo). 4.1 is shaping up
nicely.

My Recent Encounter with Winblows Vista

,----[ Quote ]
| To summarize I am much happier with my switch to Linux, now that I am set
| free from Microcrap, Spyware, Viruses, and Security issues, which affect the
| Windows OS but not the Linux OS. Also, why would I ever need Microcrap
| anyway? I can get any Windows software to work under Linux anyway using Wine.
| I have all my games under Steam, and I get better frame rates faking Windows
| on Linux than using pure Windows. Now, that's something to think about. If
| you could improve your overall PC performance, why wouldn't you switch to a
| flavor of Linux? Don't be the lazy American! Put that brain to work just like
| you did when you were learning how to use Windows XP – what are you chicken?

These new users are certainly very happy. They recently ditched Windows...

Linux gains despite and because of Microsoft

,----[ Quote ]
| Despite the heightened competition over the last two quarters from
| Microsoft-Novell and a move by Oracle to undercut Red Hat on the cost of Red
| Hat Linux support service, Red Hat has reported double-digit growth in
| revenue and an increase in profit.
|
| “The success of Red Hat has been able to validate the future potential for
| open source software,” Szulik says.
|
| Emerging countries are also lucrative markets for Linux, says IDC’s Gillen,
| because there isn’t as much of the legacy Windows technology to have to
| displace.

An open letter to Bill Gates

,----[ Quote ]
| Dear Bill Gates
|
| Give me back my weekend. I bought a new Windows Vista laptop -- and
| that's when the trouble began.
|
| [...]
|
| But what really grates is that your system is incompatible with two
| of the vital tools of my trade. Vista refuses to load the software
| for my newish Olympus digital recorder. And here?s what takes the
| biscuit. Vista rejects my HP IPAQ handheld device ? even though the
| software for that was created by Microsoft!
|
| So in order to put Vista at the centre of what I do, I would have to
| buy hundreds of pounds of new hardware.
|
| [...]
|
| My conclusion? For all the expensive and much-extended gestation,
| Vista was not ready for commercial release. And, just so you know,
| I've never once had a comparably horrible experience with the
| Google boys.

Survey: Vista Used Less than 1 percent of PCs

,----[ Quot
| Windows Vista may yet prove to be an unstoppable juggernaut,
| but statistics released Thursday by a market research firm
| show that the new operating system hasn't even licked its
| nine-year old ancestor.
