Ubuntu is going to have a Free-only installation mode (8reportedly*), which is
nice. More people might experiment with libre and in some cases, unless the
user gives up, it might even stick. With ATI's (AMD/Novell) open source
driver, RadeonHD, even 3D on the GPU can work out of the box without blobs.
There's some tension over AtomBIOS at the moment.
