Re: Firefox Cross Market Share Milestone (Estimated)

Here's a further quote from the Wall Street Journal article:

<Quote>
arly Thursday morning, Firefox 3 users accounted for as much as 6.2%
of total Internet usage, a staggering feat considering the time it
took Firefox to build an 18% market share from its release in Nov.
2004 to May 2008. “That’s a massive number to happen in this sort of a
time,” Vizzaccaro tells us. “It’s incredible, frankly.” He adds that
he thinks “there’s a chance for [Firefox and IE] to get on equal
footing at some point.”

But the upcoming release of IE 8 could spark yet another battle in the
“Browser Wars” and test the hype surrounding the new Firefox.
Microsoft spokeswoman Sarah Keeling tells us that Microsoft welcomes
the challenge. “It certainly is an interesting year for the browser,”
she tells us.

Microsoft will release a second beta version of IE 8 in August. The
company has not announced a launch date for the final version.

So, Microsoft "welcomes" the challenge??? You know where IE would be
if there had been no Firefox? Exactly where it was 7 years ago, after
they eliminated Netscape. Microsoft only put effort into IE because
of Firefox. Since then, they've been copying Firefox as fast as they
can.

How can anyone believe that monopoly is good for the consumer???
