If Xen and KVM are free, why do VMware and Microsoft get all of the press?
,----[ Quote ]
| Xen and KVM, like other virtualization tools, can be used as part of a
| comprehensive datacenter architecture. One of the most important value
| propositions offered by both of these tools is low initial cost
| (read “free”). Depending upon the implementation (Citrix, Red Hat, SUSE,
| Virtual Iron, Oracle, Sun, Qumranet, etc.) these tools may offer outstanding
| performance. Depending upon the expertise level found in the organization’s
| IT department, they may not be the most cost-effective tools.
|
| [...]
|
| Better funded (from a marketing perspective) competitors, such as VMware and
| Microsoft, seem to get the headlines. This can be directly associated with
| mindshare.
|
| [...]
|
| Why do you think that Xen and KVM aren’t “top of mind” for more business
| decision makers?

Someone should tell him that Microsoft literally owns a lot of press. It gets

Is Microsoft Trampling on First Amendment Rights?
,----[ Quote ]
| In three separate legal actions, Microsoft has been using the courts in an
| attempt to smoke out sources, challenge the first-amendment rights of writers
| and reporters, and chill press coverage and public disclosure of important
| information that it prefers remain secret.
|
| Two of these cases have been conducted publicly, and one in secret. In early
| October, Microsoft subpoenaed the source materials of Dan Goodin, a reporter
| for the online news organization C/NET, and a hearing on the matter will take
| place next week. Appealing a lower court decision that denied its demand for
| source materials, Microsoft is still pursuing access to these materials from
| the authors of Competing on Internet Time, Harvard professor David Yoffie and
| MIT professor Michael Cusomano.

Beeb slammed for 'fawning' to Bill Gates
,----[ Quote ]
| BBC viewers have flooded the corporation with complaints over how it
| covered the launch of Microsoft Vista earlier this week.
|
| In one cringingly servile interview worthy of Uriah Heep, the
| Beeb's news presenter Hugh Edwards even thanked Gates at the
| end of it, presumably in appreciation at being allowed to give
| the Vole vast coverage for free.
|
| In other TV news items presenters excitedly explained how Vistac

|
| But British viewers, currently forced to pay a £131.50 licence
| fee to maintain the BBC's "impartiality", were less than impressed.
|
| Scores got in touch to complain that so much was Auntie up Bill's
| bum that you could barely see her corset.
