Vista Adoption going no-where, IT considering Linux and Mac instead

,----[ Quote ]
| KACE, a systems management appliance company, announced that their recent
| survey of IT administrators showed that 60 percent of them have no plans to
| deploy Vista. That’s almost 10% more turning their backs on Vista then in
| KACE’s last survey in November 2007 . According to the company press
| release, “42 percent of them said they would consider deployment of
| alternative operating systems, such as Mac OS and Linux, in order to avoid a
| migration to Vista.”
|
| [...]
|
| In other words, they know that by avoiding Vista and replacing it with Linux
| and Mac OS they’re adding more complexity to their network management work.
| On the other hand, even with Vista SP1, 83 percent are concerned about
| Vista’s compatibility with business software. The feeling in those
| considering switching operating systems seems to be it’s better to use Mac
| and Linux software, where at least they can be sure that applications will
| work with the operating system rather than with Vista, which they clearly
| don’t trust to run business applications.

Even Microsoft's press must cope with defeat...

Vista Adoption Weakens, as IT Pros Eye Apple

| A KACE-sponsored survey on Windows Vista adoption represents more bad news
| for Microsoft's flagship operating system, even as Microsoft prepares to pour
| an estimated $300 million into a new Vista marketing campaign -- news that
| was announced at Microsoft's 2008 Worldwide Partner Conference.
|
| The survey polled 1,162 IT professionals in June and was conducted by King
| Research for KACE, which makes a hardware-based systems management product
| for IT administrators. The company's KBOX product is also available as a
| plug-in to VMware's virtualized stack.

According to this, 3% already use GNU/Linux in the enterprise (that's more than
Macs):

Vista: DOA in the Enterprise

,----[ Quote ]
| The really bad news for Microsoft: the number of business PCs running Windows
| XP increased from 2007 to 2008—three times the increase in the percentage of
| PCs running Vista.
|
| Perhaps worse: The majority of businesses waiting for Vista—meaning those
| running older Windows versions—migrated to XP instead. Microsoft had counted
| on Windows 2000 and older versions to go to Vista. The newest Windows saw
| some conversion, but XP got much more.
