Re: Did Erik Get Fired?

On the other hand, there are the "flatfish configurations"
shown in the articles below, where hardware was specifically
designed NOT to run Linux. Choosing a DirectX-10 video card
that does not support OpenGL is a good way to break Linux,
so is an Atheros A/B/G/N card (drivers were still flakey
last time I tried - about 6 months ago, maybe it's better
now).

"flatfish configuration". Heh heh.

Nothing works - http://tinyurl.com/6m6a8c Heh!

I'm using an Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005G 802.11abg
NIC card on this old laptop, so it must be the N that is the
issue. The abg card is an "Ativa" from Office Depot, a
dumbass vendor openly committed to supporting only
Microsoft-compatible stuff.

Especially since the release of Vista, many corporations are
now testing evaluation PCs for Linux compatibility before
ordering them in quantity, and about 80% are ordering them
with XP instead of Vista, partly because the smaller XP
footprint is easier to distribute as a VMWare (or other
virtualization SW) "Appliance".

Even XP itself is pretty bloaty. Win 2000 is better, although
it does really slow down as time goes on over the months, and
you install more and more Microsoft software on it.

XP needs about 1/2 gig of RAM, and 20 gig of hard drive
space, while Vista seems to need about 2 gig of RAM and 100
gig of hard drive, and Vista seems to get upset if it
doesn't get to gobble up all of the CPU.

Win 2000 can get by with 256 Mb RAM and 10Gb of hard-drive.

XP can get by with 1/2 gig until you open multiple Windows applications, which is common in a desktop environment. Then one needs at least 1 gig, with more being optimal.

To remove bloat, I installed FireFox on one person's XP Home computer. He was amazed how much quicker FireFox is in downloading pages than bloatware Internet Explorer 7.

There are still many companies who are still using Windows
2000, because the footprint for that OS can be as small as
128 Meg of RAM and 4 gigabytes of hard drive for a
functional system that will run the few proprietary
applications that won't run on LInux.

Ah, there.

DFS your signature is an attempt at total honesty?

DFS is the shrieking Goebbels of COLA.

Both DFS and [H]adron are Tokyo Rose anti-advocates of Linux. With Windows music in the background, they spread their taunts. Most of their posting is absurdly stupid, and IMHO intended to continue the Microsoft evangelism as indicated in one of the Comes court case documents:
