| Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions,
| today announced that Cybercity, a leading Danish broadband supplier and part

Red Hat trounces Microsoft in server operating system stakes

,----[ Quote ]
| Channel Insider has announced that Red Hat Enterprise Linux has beaten off
| the competition in the 2008 Product of the Year awards to scoop the server
| operating system award. This is important for two reasons: firstly the fact
| that awards are given to products which "exemplify attributes of high
| importance to the channel including value, support and profit potential"
| which gives it a very real world impact, but also because Microsoft could not
| muster a top three place at all. In fact, Sun came in second with Novell in
| third.

Why CentOS will not become the next Microsoft

,----[ Quote ]
| We can only ask ourselves why someone would want us to believe that Red Hat
| is the next Microsoft, but let me reiterate why neither CentOS nor Red Hat
| will be the next Microsoft:
|
| * The source code is freely available
| * There is a level playing field (read: no monopoly) for all Open Source
| contributors to innovate and integrate (thanks to the GPL)
| * Red Hat employs hundreds of Open Source developers that contribute to,
| contribute to development for and maintains a lot of Open Source projects
| that form the base of every Linux distribution (more than any other
| company)
| * The Fedora project is a good example how the community and Red Hat
| interact to the benefit of everyone and a good entry point to become part
| of the community

A Virtual Open Source Center to Nordic Countries

,----[ Quote ]
| The initiative was confirmed during the Norwegian IT-minister Heidi
| Grande Roys' visit in Finland. The leader of COSS, Petri Rasanen,
| stated that the steady operation of COSS is a good base to build
| the international collaboration on, and for example the web site
| of the new center will be based on the COSS portal.
