Digging in the Nokia-and-software-patents topic

,----[ Quote ]
| If you care about the topic you can help by providing more precision and data
| in the accusation and the demands: Is Nokia really lobbying for software
| patents nowadays? Which countries are we talking about apart from the EU?
| What does “lobbying” exactly mean? What would you find reasonable about Nokia
| dealing with software patents?

Bodog goes patent troll hunting

,----[ Quote ]
| "They count on organizations being forced to make the assessment of whether
| fighting a patent claim will cost more than to simply settle it. They say
| their patents are valid. They say their claims are legitimate. Well, it's
| time to prove it."

Qualcomm defeated in patent dispute with Nokia

,----[ Quote ]
| Nokia is celebrating the fact that Qualcomm has, to date, failed to win a
| single case concerning GSM patents. "This is the second court to conclude
| that Qualcomm does not have relevant and valid GSM patents," commented
| Nokia's chief financial officer Rick Simonson. The US International Trade
| Commission (ITC) has already declared one of three Qualcomm patents to be
| invalid and rejected an appeal. Both actions concerned similar patents from
| the same family, as confirmed by Nokia.

Twelve billion euros claimed from Nokia for use of patents

,----[ Quote ]
| IPcom, an exploiter of patents based in Pullach, near Munich, is demanding 12
| billion euros from the Finnish group Nokia for use of mobile telephony
| patents, reports Handelsblatt. IPCom is said to have lodged a complaint with
| the Land Court in Mannheim in early January, aimed at prohibiting Nokia’s use
| of eight patent families. That would mean a ban on sales in a large number of
| countries, though what particular patents are involved is not yet clear.
