Mark> We could use Egyptian Hieroglyphs, except that few people
Mark> understand them any more. Icons are no more inherently
Mark> meaningful than any other abstraction, so have to be learnt.
So, why not use Chinese characters instead? They're compact in terms
of precious screen real-estate, and billions of people already
understand them. Only 5 out of 6 people in this world would need to
learn them, and it's possible to find schools all over the world where
they're taught!
Mark> Looking them up in manuals is easy, just have a picture in a
Mark> manual!
Methods for indexing Chinese characters have existed for thousands of
years. So, that's not a problem. :)
