Microsoft has been greasing up the Samba team because Samba has been one of the
more vocal critics of Microsoft. The same goes for Carlo Piana, their lawyer.
What Microsoft tries to establish with Novell and 3 other distributors is
consent to non-compete clause through signatures that essentially lock out the
GPL. It's an abomination that the EU ought to look at. Microsoft looks to
expand its Trust (as in anti-trust), further eliminating competition using
lawyers.
