I reckon that journalists and MBAs are taught by the likes of Microsoft to
respect them while at the same time Microsoft feeds them. It's
industry-imposed, much like the educational system. It's a cycle. See this:
http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2008/03/31/230047/pc-deal-could-save-public-sector-billions.htm
"Self-fulfilling prophecy."
Analysts make up one of the most corrupt industries, which comprises shills in
suits. Some are trying better, so it's risky to generalise, but the few that
give them a bad reputation just poison the entire well.
Last week, someone from the Burton Group -- the one that attacked ODF, VMWare
and Google on behalf of Microsoft, only later to get 'consulting contracts'
from Microsoft -- tried to defend itself in one of my posts.
Remember:
"Makes them very prickly to work with.”
"...concerned that they never look like they are selling out..."
It's all in Microsoft's own documents:

Classic.
