Early Days with KDE 4: openSUSE 10.3, Kubuntu 8.04 and Fedora 9 compared

,----[ Quote ]
| Arch has taught me so much and I will go back to it one day. For now, I plan
| to decide between three popular KDE distros - openSUSE, Kubuntu and Fedora.
| The desktop environment of choice? KDE 4.0.

KDE4 on Gentoo

| It reminds me a lot of Apple’s OS 9 to OS X transition. I’ve been following
| the development for some time. From the alphas, betas, and release in
| January, I’m quite surprised by where we are at today. Things are much better
| than they were just six short months ago. A lot of work has taken place and
| we are really forging the foundation for a first rate competitor in the PC
| desktop arena for the next 10 years. KDE 4.1 should be be released near the
| end of the summer. I believe it will be enough to convert many KDE3 users
| over. Things should really calm down and align by 4.2 and it will no doubt in
| my mind be the best desktop environment whatsoever at this point.

New [KDE 4] screencasts

,----[ Quote ]
| Took a lot of time so I began uploading them to Youtube. They were made
| in 1024x768 resolution (My little laptop uses that res natively, and I hope
| to encounter beamers with the same resolution) for a sharp image.

KDE 4 rev 802150: Work in progress

,----[ Quote ]
| KWin with Wobbly Windows
|
| Kwin features a new visual effect known to most of you from Compiz: the
| Wobbly Windows. Only a few days ago the settings panel for this effect had
| tons of detailed options. Most of these options have been disabled now, the
| only thing that can be configured is the window deformation level while in
| motion. This seems more appropriate for a common user since the number of
| configurable settings was overwhelming before. One minor flaw that I noticed
| in KWin Wobble Windows is that the window shadow is not properly deformed (it
| does not adjust to the current shape of the window).
