Sun wants open source and profits

,----[ Quote ]
| Debian founder Ian Murdock was trotted out at JavaOne to plead with open
| source advocates to think of the world in terms of open vs. closed source,
| not Linux vs. Solaris. Dalibor Topic, the newly appointed Java open source
| ambassador, urged greater participation in the Java Community Process to
| shape it more to the community's liking; and former MySQL CEO Marten Mickos
| swore that his database would remain open source, despite rumors to the
| contrary.

IBM still markets Linux-based and standards-based proprietary software
as 'open'. Sun is at least trying harder to open up, but without Linux.
