Patent troll lopes after Facebook
,----[ Quote ]
| Leader Technologies, a provider of web-based enterprise software for groups,
| is apparently suing Facebook. It claims the popular social network is
| infringing on a patent it obtained in 2002, that “relates to a method and
| system for the management and storage of electronic information.” Facebook
| tells me it hasn’t seen the complaint yet, although Leader issued a press
| release earlier today saying that it has already filed the suit in Delaware.

OpenMoko CEO: Embrace fragmentation, diversity is a strength
,----[ Quote ]
| During his presentation, Moss-Pultz looked back at the successes and
| challenges encountered by the OpenMoko community in the past year and talked
| about how the project's adaptability and commitment to freedom have
| contributed to its current status.
|
| Although the OpenMoko concept was initially met with enormous skepticism, it
| has achieved success and is now generating profit. The company's first
| handset, the Neo1973, was manufactured in limited quantity and sold out
| completely within the first three days after it launched. Demand for the
| product was unexpectedly high, and Moss-Pultz humorously remarked that it
| probably would have sold out faster if the servers had been able to better
| withstand the massive traffic.

Distributor spins "W.E. phone"
,----[ Quote ]
| Mississauga, Ontario-based Koolu Inc. has agreed to distribute OpenMoko's
| Linux-based Neo FreeRunner in the Americas, the U.K., and the European Union.
| Koolu is distributing the FreeRunner under the name W.E. Phone, and is
| bundling it with Google Apps.
|
| The Neo FreeRunner shipped on July 4th, and was billed as a completely open
| source, hackable hardware platform based on GNU Linux and the OpenMoko.org
| phone stack. Users are free to install and run new operating system firmware,
| for example in order to add native Linux software applications of their own
| choosing. As distributed by Koolu, the W.E. Phone version of the FreeRunner
| appears to have some software customizations, including Google Apps.
