Simply Mepis 8 is Looking Good

,----[ Quote ]
| You should give Linux a try. If you are currently using MS Windows, you
| should download the .iso image, burn it to a CD, stick it in your optical
| drive and reboot the computer. You won’t have to install right away, unless
| you want. This way you can look at Linux and see what it’s all about. There’s
| more information here. Give it a shot and you’ll probably like what you see.

MEPIS Linux 8.0 nears release

,----[ Quote ]
| A new version of MEPIS Linux, one of my favorite KDE-based distributions, is
| nearing final release. Roughly a year after the arrival of version 7.0,
| distribution founder and maintainer Warren Woodford has just issued MEPIS 8.0
| beta 2, based on a Debian Lenny core.
|
| I last tested MEPIS at version 6.0 two years ago, and found it to be a nearly
| perfect Linux desktop. That version was based on Ubuntu packages, whereas
| version 7.0, which emerged late last year, marked a move back to a Debian
| core.

Review: SimplyMepis 7.0

,----[ Quote ]
| Overall, SimplyMepis 7 is a very good distribution for new users. Aside from
| the few problems I listed above, I'd consider it a top pick distribution for
| new users and will join other greats such as PcLinuxOS and Mint on my list of
| recommended distributions. It still has a few chinks in the armor that the
| developers still need to work out, but I think that's true to some degree
| with every distribution, but some have bigger flaws than others. There are
| some things that need to be fixed which I feel are important to resolve in
| order for SimplyMepis to rise to the top of all distributions for new users.
| But aside from that, it gets my vote as one of my recommended distributions.

SimplyMEPIS 7.0 is a keeper

,----[ Quote ]
| SimplyMEPIS has always been and remains one of my favorite Linux
| distributions because of its no-nonsense approach to the user desktop. It
| contains virtually all the things I desire in a desktop and does so in a
| logical and easy-to-use manner. Its selection of included software is
| well-rounded and intuitive without a lot of overlap. It is one of the rare
| systems that is equally appropriate for new users and the experienced. I
| always keep a version of SimplyMEPIS installed so that no matter what else I
| do to my laptop, I will always have at least one system that will work when I
| need it.
|
| SimplyMEPIS continues to be at the top of the short list of systems I
| recommend when asked which Linux distro to try. It is one of the best
| distributions available today. It is SimplyWONDERFUL.

SimplyMEPIS-7.0 - Beyond Dapper!

,----[ Quote ]
| In conclusion, the more attractive SimplyMEPIS 7.0 is lightning fast even
| though its graphical interface is powered by KDE 3.5.8. As a matter of fact,
| it feels faster and more stable than SimplyMEPIS 6.5. Setting  up SimplyMEPIS
| 7.0 was super easy, as usual!  I could easily surf the shared directory of
| SimplyMEPIS 7.0 from Windows XP once the installation was over,  and I could
| also easily surf the shared directory of Windows XP from SimplyMEPIS 7.0.
| Almost zero effort was needed to make this work! Should you need a KDE
| desktop which can be easily set up within a few minutes,  there no doubt that
| SimplyMEPIS 7.0 is the right choice.

MEPIS 7.0-rc2: See Fedora

,----[ Quote ]
| I tried MEPIS 6.0 and 6.5 a while back because it seemed like a good
| distribution. The best of Ubuntu, Debian, and Knoppix all rolled into one
| with some extra goodies a la Mint- who wouldn't want it? It turned out to be
| a decent distribution, but a solid one at best.
| All this is (hopefully- it's the last RC, but it's still just an RC) going to
| change with version 7.0.

Another Day Another Distro - Part 8 - SimplyMEPIS 7.0 Beta 6

,----[ Quote ]
| This time around I decided to try out another distribution I'd never used
| before in the shape of MEPIS. I started off with simplyMEPIS 6.5 which seemed
| a bit dated but luckily it was pointed out to me that 7.0 is due out very
| soon. I noticed simplyMEPIS 7.0 AntiX had been released recently but it's a
| lightweight distribution for older hardware and it's probably not fair to
| compare that to the larger distros directly. I might look at lightweight
| distros in their own right in future.

MEPIS releases KDE 4 Beta 1 Live DVDs

,----[ Quote ]
| In a statement, Jos Poortvliet of the KDE Project said, "The KDE project is
| happy to see MEPIS Linux leading the way in bringing the next-generation
| desktop technology to their users. This decision of early adoption of KDE 4
| by the MEPIS developers will ensure a premier KDE experience for the users.
| We hope KDE 4 will be appreciated, and we look forward to the constructive
| comments from the MEPIS community."

MEPIS founder clarifies MEPIS/Ubuntu relationship

,----[ Quote ]
| Woodford [MEPIS]: Again it's a matter of what you mean by those words.
| Mark [Shuttleworth] and I talked it over before I switched to Ubuntu.
| He's clear that MEPIS is an independent distro. And yet, it is fair
| to say on the Ubuntu site that MEPIS is a derivative of Ubuntu,
| from the point of view that we use the Ubuntu packages. And we
| use them by choice, because they meet our needs and they're
| the best available. That reference at the Ubuntu site says
| that we endorse Ubuntu, and we do.
