PC/OS 2008v2 Available Now

,----[ Quote ]
| On Saturday, August 30, 2008 we are very proud to announce the general
| availability of PC/OS 2008v2. This update brings to PC/OS all the bug
| releases and distribution updates for Ubuntu 8.04.1 as well as seperate
| application updates for some of the installed packages.

MidnightBSD 0.2.1 and DragonFly BSD 2.1-DEVEL (Live DVD) have also just been
released.

Busy weekend ahead

,----[ Quote ]
| There aren't many LiveCDs or LiveDVDs for the BSD flavors. And I definitely
| have something against FreeBSD and OpenBSD anyway (old story: FreeBSD for
| they're rude, and OpenBSD for practical reasons). From my favorites now:
| NetBSD 4 has a LiveCD/LiveDVD derivative called Jibbed that worked once with
| my hardware (less than brilliant), but a more recent build was unusable (it
| froze after booting). DragonFly BSD's install CD can run as a LiveCD, but
| without X. But here's the unexpectedly good news: the release of a DragonFly
| BSD LiveDVD!

Fluxbox 1.1 Released, 100+ Changes

,----[ Quote ]
| Fluxbox 1.0 was released in October of 2007, but its first post-1.0 update
| has now been released. The source to Fluxbox 1.1 has just hit its SourceForge
| page, but at this time there is no release announcement nor has their project
| web-site been updated. There is, however, the change-log that ships with the
| source package to look at.

In A State Of Flux

,----[ Quote ]
| For those who like to spend time and care customising their desktop and who
| are looking for a light, fast window manager, I highly recommend Fluxbox.

Technology: Fluxbuntu: User-friendly Featherweight Linux?

,----[ Quote ]
| Fluxbuntu bundles a relatively complete desktop experience in ultra-light
| package. Those with significant Linux experience under their belts might find
| the operating system to be a miracle that brings their older machines out of
| the graveyard and back to life. Another good place for Fluxbuntu - and one
| where I think it is currently more appropriately suited than the desktop, due
| to its limitations - might be on a home server, where you don't want all the
| extras included in Ubuntu, but still want a GUI interface instead of a
| commandline-only machine. Fluxbuntu certainly has a niche to fill but it has
| a long way to go, and if you aren't comfortable using the command line and
| editing the occasional configuration file, it's probably best to stay away
| from Fluxbuntu.

Come Fly with Fluxbuntu

,----[ Quote ]
| Fluxbuntu is a must try Linux distribution which I feel has a very bright
| future ahead. I think new to Linux users will be able to handle it well with
| minor trouble. But, it might take some time for them to get used to its
| Fluxbox desktop. Meanwhile, advanced users will love it for its speed and
| versatility.
|
| All in all, Fluxbuntu is very much like Ubuntu. Those who want to try Ubuntu
| but can’t because of hardware limitations will definitely be fulfilled with
| Fluxbuntu. Those who have higher-end machines but are into speed and
| performance might want to consider using Fluxbuntu, as it is definitely
| lightweight and can make anyone’s powerful computer fly.
|
| I totally agree on what is advertised about Fluxbuntu: Lightweight.
| Productive. Agile. Efficient. Ubuntu.

Review: TinyFlux 1.0

,----[ Quote ]
| TinyFlux has earned my respect, and while I can't suggest it to new users, I
| can suggest it to the more seasoned user out there without hesitation.  It
| should also be good to use on all those computers that have low hardware
| specs, or anything that is older and has seen greener pastures.

Fluxbuntu 7.10 RC review

,----[ Quote ]
| It’s Linux. It’s lightweight. You have access to Ubuntu repositories. Good
| choice of default applications. –> it’s a very good choice for old computers.
| I’m going to install it on my parent’s computer (P2 @ 400 MHz, 128 MB RAM).
| As they use it for internet browsing, Fluxbuntu seems almost the perfect
| choice.
|
| Also, some of the programs included with Fluxbuntu may be better, in some
| cases, than “classic” applications that do the same thing (Claws Mail vs
| Thunderbird or Evolution, AbiWord vs OpenOffice.org), on any distribution,.

Fluxbuntu 7.10 RC on 450Mhz K6-2, 256Mb

,----[ Quote ]
| In short, this is something that has been needed for a long time — a cool and
| clean Ubuntu derivative that’s at once lightweight and comprehensive. If
| you’re a past Ubuntu user and you have a 500Mhz machine in the closet, this
| is what you’d want on it. I would recommend this over Xubuntu for anyone in
| the sub-1Ghz range, any day of the week.
|
| Try it. You’ll like it.

A weekend with fluxbox.

,----[ Quote ]
| My biggest problem with using fluxbox is not fluxbox itself. I wanted it to
| be able to save some resources for my aging computer but I still needed to
| use KDE programs. So I checked my resource usage with pure KDE and then with
| fluxbox and KDE programs. There was no difference in resource usage.

Fluxbox on Gutsy, just to be different

,----[ Quote ]
| Just for giggles, I installed Fluxbox on Gutsy today ... which isn't
| really very daring, since the repositories have only been open for
| a day or two, and there?s very little in there that has changed.

Distrowar: Fluxbuntu vs. MiniMe

,----[ Quote ]
| Fluxbuntu and MiniMe are ultra-lightweight versions of two equally popular
| Linux distributions namely Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS. Fluxbuntu kept it light by
| utilizing a Fluxbox window manager as well as other unhefty pre-installed
| applications. Meanwhile, MiniMe uses a KDE desktop but with minimum
| out-of-the-box software packages.
