2007 was the 'year of Linux'... from major OEMs. Hugely important! Dell opened
the floodgates in many ways and I remember how 100,000+ people voted for it
while [H]omer wrote influential letters. Dell has never looked back and it
continues **expanding** this initiative (e.g. Linux on all motherboards and a
new laptop with Ubuntu targeting the developing market announced just days
ago).

It's right to say that news about 'yet another' Linux laptop have become
boring... like a dog biting a man. But now that Linux is winning it's
important to keep the momentum going and savour it. :-)

Microsoft is already giving away Windows for very cheap. They are desperate to
reverse Linux' gain of a critical mass (the tipping point is years behind us).
They try patents/Novell/SCO.

One thing that Microsoft explores is a free (gratis) Windows where profit is
made from subscription. It won't work against OOo and GNU/Linux and Microsoft
knows it, so it only experiments cluelessly and fearfully at the moment (while
the company's value sinks... because it's all a financial fraud and 'tissue
paper' money).

They look at an inappropriate and biased sample. What you need to do is pay
attention just to trend and not to absolute numbers. I hear that in Brazil
about 8% of the people use GNU/Linux and even the Microsoft agents from
Gartner say that Linux has already grabbed 4% of the desktop market. If the
figures in those 'Fisher Price' statistics (possibly sponsors by some non-Free
software companies) show Linux doubling, apply that x2 to figures like 8% or
4%. There's a big lie out there and no 'Linux fund' to fight the FUD, unless
Linux="Red Hat" or "Linux=Ubuntu".
