KDE 4.2 Progress, New NetworkManager Plasmoid Coming
,----[ Quote ]
| When KDE 4.0 was first released, it was met with quite some criticism. Even
| though people saw the huge potential, the lack of functionality and
| stability, as well as quite a few bugs detracted from the experience. The KDE
| developers continued to work on implementing their relatively radical vision,
| and with the release of KDE 4.2 creeping ever closer, it seems they're well
| on their way.

KDE NetworkManager interface gets a shiny plasma overhaul
,----[ Quote ]
| In most modern Linux distributions, network configuration is handled by
| NetworkManager, a desktop-neutral service that seamlessly manages
| connections. It leverages D-Bus and HAL to provide a standardized programming
| interface through which higher-level applications can interact with network
| configuration and expose networking functionality to the end user.
| NetworkManager has largely eliminated the need for managing network
| configuration through text files or the command line in all but a few corner
| cases.

First Amarok 2 point update brings back lots of features
,----[ Quote ]
| The developers of the open source Amarok audio player launched version 2.0
| last month with a completely new user interface and a lot of really
| impressive new features. Although the 2.0 release delivered some great stuff,
| it was missing some important features from the 1.4 series.

KDE 4.2 Review From Inside Out. Part 1
,----[ Quote ]
| Plasma makes the desktop valuable again. I liked the default uncluttered mode
| without any icons and I liked the idea of widgets that you can put on the
| desktop. Unlike 4.0 and 4.1 Plasma in 4.2 is usable and stable (not without
| minor glitches though).
|
| KRunner is a killer feature. Once you try it, you'll never stop, believe me.
| In my opinion, KRunner may easily be one of the reasons to switch to KDE4. I
| only wish it was more prominent and more documented.
|
| As a general conclusion, I should say that after KDE4 I don't want to get
| back to KDE3. The new Plasma desktop is a huge success and with proper
| architecture and implementation behind it, I'm sure we'll see even more
| exciting improvements in the future. And of course, I'm sure that in
| subsequent KDE releases we'll also see even more polished and ironed out 4.x
| desktop.

| KWin with Wobbly Windows
|
| Kwin features a new visual effect known to most of you from Compiz: the
| Wobbly Windows. Only a few days ago the settings panel for this effect had
| tons of detailed options. Most of these options have been disabled now, the
| only thing that can be configured is the window deformation level while in
| motion. This seems more appropriate for a common user since the number of
| configurable settings was overwhelming before. One minor flaw that I noticed
| in KWin Wobble Windows is that the window shadow is not properly deformed (it
| does not adjust to the current shape of the window).
