I think a lot of corporations did that when money was loose. How many of
them divested themselves of their core businesses to become new finance
or service companies, or whatever.
Google may be going down the same road -- but so far, everything they're
doing seems to be based around their core business.
Agreed although the best example has to be Microsoft. (IMO)
I always question though their closing of their FlightSim software.
From people I spoke with it was very well received and I'd guess
Microsoft has many other projects they could have shut down instead of
that one.
