Understanding the Scope
,----[ Quote ]
| Besides...Linux Against Poverty does not end in Austin...this is only the
| beginning. People on 4 continents are waiting for us to get this documented
| so they can hold their own event.

Linux, Mac users - your copy of Windows may be tax deductible
,----[ Quote ]
| While better than previous years, it is still little comfort to Macintosh
| users or those who may not be able to get WINE working for whatever reason.
|
| The Australian Tax Office (ATO) has not indicated any interest in producing
| either a cross-platform edition of e-tax or a release for any non-Microsoft
| operating system.

Call for Tax Deductibility for Donating (to) FLOSS (AU)
,----[ Quote ]
| There is cause to believe that an entity could be established in such a way
| as to be a deductible gift recipient under the Australian Income Tax
| legislation and that donations of open source software to that entity would
| give rise to a tax deduction to the benefit of the donor while preserving
| public access to the software. Such an arrangement would benefit individual
| FLOSS developers (who have an income against which a deduction can be
| claimed), including those whose FLOSS activities are pro bono at the moment.
| There is no reason to think the same principles would not apply to other
| licensing schemes, such as open content.

Can Washington Charge Unauthorized Downloaders With Tax Evasion?
,----[ Quote ]
| A bunch of states have been pushing forward with plans to add taxes on
| digital downloads. The state of Washington apparently passed just such a law,
| which is scheduled to go into effect on July 26th. Nate sent in a note,
| pointing out that under a strict reading of the details of the bill you could
| see how the state could go after unauthorized downloaders as "tax evaders."
