ISOHunt to start filtering content

,----[ Quote ]
| TorrentSpy decides to not block US visitors and chooses to filter pirated
| content from its search results instead, something which ISOHunt plans to do
| as well.
|
| It’s a sad day for those in the US who use TorrentSpy or ISOHunt, two of the
| world’s largest public trackers sites, to find movies, music, and more to
| download for it seems the party’s nearing an end.

Playing Whack-A-Mole With Data: The Pirate Bay Lives On

,----[ Quote ]
| Responses have been overwhelmingly negative to the news that The Pirate Bay
| will soon be sold to Global Gaming Factory. But what if there is a method to
| the apparent Pirate Bay madness — one that, as Peter Sunde has hinted, could
| actually be good for the P2P community?

The War on Sharing: Why the FSF Cares About RIAA Lawsuits

,----[ Quote ]
| In one of RIAA’s high profile cases the Free Software Foundation backed
| defendant Joel Tenenbaum, much to the dislike of the music industry lobby.
| John Sullivan, Operations Manager at the FSF explains in a guest post why
| they think these cases impact not just music, but also free software and its
| technology.

France Strikes Out: Approves Cutting People Off The Internet

,----[ Quote ]
| Still, the thing that is most amusing about this is how supporters of such
| three strikes rules somehow seem to think that this will suddenly make people
| buy again. There's no evidence that this is true, whatsoever. But the main
| backer of this bill in France claims that this is:
|
|     "an important step toward preserving cultural diversity and the
|     industries threatened by piracy."
|
| How? By kicking fans of the work offline? The most telling part of this
| statement is that it's about preserving the industries "threatened" by
| piracy, not the actual creators of content.

France says 'Oui!' to three strikes for music pirates

,----[ Quote ]
| This Gallic experiment is sure to attract global attention, as governments
| and media moguls in the UK, the US, and elsewhere hve been wrangling about a
| three-strikes policy for some time.

As Sarkozy Pushes Three Strikes, He Pays Up For His Own Copyright Violations

,----[ Quote ]
| Now, you might hope that this would cause Sarkozy to rethink his stance on
| copyright infringement. Instead, it looks like his political party has simply
| agreed to pay up and make the issue go away, while still pushing for the
| three strikes law. It sounds like they paid about 30,000 euros, which is a
| lot more than the single euro that Sarkozy's party initially offered (yes,
| seriously). No word on whether or not this counts towards the number of
| strikes on Sarkozy's internet connection.

Political Hypocrisy: French President Sued for Copyright Infringement

,----[ Quote ]
| This may very well become the most ironic stories of 2009 in the copyright
| debate. The CBC is reporting that French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been
| sued by an independent band for copyright infringement.

Is Nicholas Sarkozy One Strike Towards Losing His Internet Connection?

,----[ Quote ]
| The latest is that French President, Nicholas Sarkozy, a big supporter of
| setting up a three strikes law in France, is being accused of violating
| copyright law himself.

British Government Violates Copyright

,----[ Quote ]
| As much as I utterly despise the entire premise of Intellectual Monopoly,
| this is about violating the principles of a Free License, and if it's good
| enough for the British government to violate our civil rights in the name of
| Intellectual Monopoly, then it's good enough for the Free World to protect
| its "property" (in fact Freedom) too…

UK government stole website theme

,----[ Quote ]
| NUMBER 10, the UK Prime Minister's website, is apparently built using a
| design it nicked.
