Slackware and Zenwalk
,----[ Quote ]
| I installed and all I can say is WOW! It’s a fantastic implementation of
| XFCE regardless of distribution. The Slackware speed and rc system are
| there, greeting me on each startup/login. XFCE is done brilliantly there and
| really feels like a superb implementation. Updating is a snap with netpkg,
| something I haven’t had any experience with…it does the job nicely though.
| Overall, I’m quite satisfied with Zenwalk and will be sticking with it for a
| while. I’ll post back from time to time with any tips or tricks I might find
| as I’m stretching my legs so to speak in my new environment.

Review: Zenwalk 6.0, A Sprint And A Stumble
,----[ Quote ]
| THE first real connection I made at an emotional level with a Linux
| distribution was with Zenwalk, back in its version 2.0 days, and it was that
| connection which persuaded me to make my first (modest) cash donation to an
| Open Source project.

First Look: Zenwalk Linux 6.0
,----[ Quote ]
| In conclusion, we really enjoyed playing around with this distribution. It's
| blazing fast, it's fun and simple and it's as up-to-date as it can be. If not
| as a replacement of your main desktop, you should definitely give Zenwalk 6.0
| a try in your spare time. Who knows, it could be love at first sight.

ZenWalk — I'm tempted
,----[ Quote ]
| When I first started using Linux, ZenWalk was one of the first systems I
| played around with. I had a nice install at one point, and that particular
| machine would install the old version of ZenWalk at the time but not whatever
| the new version happened to be. As a last-ditch effort/experiment, I tried to
| upgrade the old system, but since ZenWalk pretty much stopped supporting my
| old system but kept everything in the same repository, the upgrade pretty
| much bricked the install.
|
| Still, ZenWalk is a super-fast system with excellent hardware detection and
| less geeky pain than in Slackware, upon which Zenwalk is based.

Review: Zenwalk 5.2
,----[ Quote ]
| Somewhere along the line I got into my head that Slackware was a distro that
| involved having to compile everything. From what I can gather from Wikipedia,
| The Slackware Website, and some comments to my Gentoo post, I was wrong.
| Gentoo apparently uses packages...

| This isn’t a review, just a suggestion that if you haven’t already tried
| Zenwalk then maybe you should give it a spin. Who knows, you might, like me,
| find that it’s the best OS you’ve ever used, bar none.
