[News] Google Offically Releases Jaiku as Open Source (Apache) and Renames It

Google Opens JaikuEngine, Fanning the Flames of Open Micro-Blogging

,----[ Quote ]
| ReadWriteWeb directs our attention to an announcement posted on Jaiku's
| Jaikido blog stating that Jaiku is now running on Google's App Engine, and
| that its code base, now known as JaikuEngine, has been open sourced under the
| Apache license 2.0.

Jaiku to become JaikuEngine

,----[ Quote ]
| The Jaiku developers have announced that Jaiku is now being served from the
| Google App Engine, which is the first step at making it "a federated, open
| source microblogging platform." The customisable platform is a part of Google
| and is maintained by volunteer Google engineers in their spare time.

"We should dedicate a cross-group team to come up with ways to leverage Windows
technically more."

                                --Jim Allchin, Microsoft felon

Google house cleaning frees Jaiku

,----[ Quote ]
| Google has decided to clean house and close many services that are either
| redundant, not very successful or unrelated to Google's core business. Most
| significantly for the open source community Google plans to release the Jaiku
| Engine as an Apache licensed project.

Changes for Jaiku and Farewell to Dodgeball and Mashup Editor

,----[ Quote ]
| With the open source Jaiku Engine project, organizations, groups and
| individuals will be able to roll-their-own microblogging services and deploy
| them on Google App Engine. The new Jaiku Engine will include support for
| OAuth, and we're excited about developers using this proven code as a
| starting point in creating a freely available and federated, open source
| microblogging platform.
