Old news and not the best way for Linux users (or those running Mac or the
other OS) to get the content either.

The iplayer-downloader works by pretending to be an iphone so can only
download streams the broadcaster deems suitable for iphone users.

The alternative - get_iplayer can get any version of the stream, even the
Hi-Def 720p flash streams.

This one also has a PVR mode so you can cron job it to automatically check
for a new episode of shows and download them overnight.

And yes despite being on a Linux related domain there are win32 and Mac
versions too.

Still waiting for either of these downloaders to support channels 4 and 5
though.
