Didn't you used to work on proprietary stuff for big companies? How was 
that showing commitment to the principle of academia?

No doubt your answer will be that you were not in an academic position, 
so it was OK that you violated academic principles, but that excuse 
won't fly, because the guy Schestowitz is writing about is also not in 
an academic position. He's a retired pharmacist.
