Durian is Coming: Blender's Third Open Movie Project

,----[ Quote ]
| Blender third open movie project, code-named âDurianâ is ramping up to
| production, and time is running out for the pre-sale campaign if you want to
| get your spot in the credits. This time the project is focusing on an
| adolescent audience with an epic-fantasy setting and a female protagonist (my
| son aptly dubbed this the âChicks in Chainmailâ genre). The only art yet
| available from Durian itself is the series of banner ads (by concept artist,
| David Revoy), but an impressive creative team has already been announced.

Blender's New Version Has Many 3D Modeling Improvements

,----[ Quote ]
| Blender, an open source 3D modeling application so powerful it has been used
| to create high-quality, full-length animated films, is out in a new version
| 2.49. The announcement of the new version is here, including details on many
| significant new improvements. Among other things, it looks like developers
| are paying a lot more attention to video capabilities, which could make
| Blender a bigger player in movies and online video offerings.

Blender 2.49 Released With Great Changes

,----[ Quote ]
| A new release of Blender, the immensely popular open-source 3D modeling
| software, is now available. This is not the much-anticipated Blender 2.5
| release, but instead version 2.49, which brings forth several prominent
| changes and improvements while the developers continue work on the next major
| release. As part of the 2.49 release, the Blender Game Engine (BGE) has also
| received improvements too.

Could this be the ultimate black and white converter??

,----[ Quote ]
| Converting digital images to B&W is a bit like the Swiss fondue recipe:
| everyone has a different version and each person is convinced to have the
| best. I previously blogged about the subject with a âblind comparisonâ
| between different methods â with the comparisonâs result.

The Blender Model Repository and BlenderNation: open-source merger?

,----[ Quote ]
| As some might know, Blender is an open-source 3D content creation
| application - itâs cross-platform, a pioneer in the free 3D application
| market, and I use it. Not only do I use it, love it, and hang out in the
| #blenderchat IRC channel on freenode, I host the Blender Model Repository,
| taking over from Andrew Kator long time ago when he suffered legal issues.
| Itâs been running stable for the past year or so, every so often getting new
| model submissions, and users finding it a useful resource.

[Blender] Durian Project Announcement

,----[ Quote ]
| concept-girl-black.jpegYes, itâs about time! The third open movie project had
| been lined up to start much sooner, but more urgent work (Blender 2.5 coding)
| forced it into the future. After all, itâs the purpose of the team here in
| Amsterdam to test and improve the 2.5x versions significantly!
| Now we intend to start up September 1, delivering a result around March/April
| 2010.

The BBC Needs You! (If you are in the U.K.)

,----[ Quote ]
| The BBC is looking for someone in the UK (3rd week in May) to do an informal
| demo of Blender to a bunch of MA Art students - creating 3D content for a 3D
| Holographic Projection.

Blender 2.48: It isn't all about play

,----[ Quote ]
| Blender 2.48 is the latest version of the the open source Blender 3D suite to
| be released by the Blender Foundation. The suite is designed to allow users
| to model, render and animate 3D scenes. Blender also offers a game design
| mode and fuelled by the development of the Yo Frankie game, most of the
| changes in the present revision affect the game engine. Blender updates are
| often driven by particular projects; most of Blender 2.46's new features were
| also driven by the needs of the 3D short animation Big Buck Bunny.

Three Cool 3D Car Racing Games for Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| My 3 year old son is addicted to race cars, so I decided to look for some 3D
| racing games that can be played natively under Linux. Unfortunately, I only
| found quite a few. But since some of you are probably desperately searching
| for some decent racing games for your Linux box, I will share to you some of
| those games that I have discovered.

Blender Game Engine Tech Demo

,----[ Quote ]
| For several months the Blender and Crystal Space projects have been working
| together to develop an open-source game they hope will be of a professional
| quality and deliver an industry standard 3D gaming experience. This game, now
| called Yo Frankie, was supposed to be released at the end of August, but that
| deadline wasn't met. However, released now is the first technology demo for
| the Blender Game Engine. This tech demo is playable and includes a small
| level from Yo Frankie, but to be released soon will be a more game-oriented
| demo that includes additional characteristics and game-play options.

Big Buck Bunny builds a better Blender

,----[ Quote ]
| Big Buck Bunny is the colorful product of the Peach open movie project: an
| animated short released online and on DVD. But in addition to the 'toon
| itself, Peach has produced an altogether different yield: improvements to the
| Blender 3-D modeling application. Like its predecessor Project Orange, Peach
| pushed the open source tool forward with the demands of a real-world media
| production, in a way that hobbyist usage cannot. Could other free software
| projects use the same model?

Second open source HD movie set to arrive on May 15

,----[ Quote ]
| On May 15, the Blender Foundation is releasing its latest open source
| project. Known as Project Peach, Big Buck Bunny is coming to DVD (available
| for preorder). Big Buck Bunny or Project Peach will come in two DVD versions,
| one version containing the "best DVD quality widescreen format" (both NTSC
| and PAL are available), while the second will feature an HD version of the
| movie using a regular dual-layer DVD disc (.avi and .mov formats).

Creative Collaboration: The Open Source Filmmaking Experiment

,----[ Quote ]
| With new collaborative tools available, some filmmakers are opening up their
| work to the participation of others. Tapping into the creative power of the
| crowd can take a film in an entirely new direction -- one that the creator
| hadn't even envisioned.
| [...]
| Creative Commons, which gives users the option of opening up the rights to
| their work, has done much to facilitate open source creative work, including
| filmmaking,

Apricot Open Game

,----[ Quote ]
| Starting February 1st 2008, a small team of again the best 3D artist and
| developers will develop a game jointly with the on-line community. The main
| characters in the game are based on the short 3D animation open movie Peach.
| At the end of July 2008 the game will be launched. The team members will get
| a great studio facility and housing in Amsterdam, all travel costs
| reimbursed, and a fee sufficient to cover all expenses during the period.

Peach Open Movie

,----[ Quote ]
| As a follow-up to the successful project Orange's "Elephants Dream",
| the Blender Foundation will initiate another open movie project.
| Again a couple of the best 3D artists and developers in the Blender
| community will be invited to come together to work in Amsterdam on
| completing a short 3D animation movie.

Crystal Space 3D

,----[ Quote ]
| Crystal Space is our main project. It is a free cross-platform
| software development kit for realtime 3D graphics, in particular games...
| Apricot is the Open Game project together with Blender.

Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux)
