Is Linux bloated? Hardly

,----[ Quote ]
| As the recognized "embedded Linux guy" by
| many of my peers, my e-mail Inbox was
| flooded with references to and comments
| about Linus Torvald's recent statement
| concerning the "bloated-ness" of Linux. In
| his opinion, as recorded in an interview at
| LinuxCon 2009, the Linux kernel has become
| "huge and scary." I will agree that Linux
| is a large body of work, but I think
| Torvald's use of the term "bloated" is both
| unfair and completely inaccurate.

Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 "Bardu" Alpha 4

,----[ Quote ]
| This is also the release that carries
| OpenCL benchmarking support on Linux via
| the addition of the opencl-ati and pyopencl
| test profiles. Additionally, the Nexuiz
| test profile has been updated along with
| others, including the parsing change that
| has caused updates to nearly every test
| profile.

Linux 2.6.31 Accelerates Performance

,----[ Quote ]
| Linux is gaining support for new hardware -- particularly USB 3.0 devices
| -- and a new performance subsystem, courtesy of the newly released Linux
| 2.6.31 kernel.
|
| [...]
|
| The previous 2.6.30 kernel included improvement to boot times, which is
| something that is further improved in the new 2.6.31 kernel Kroah-Hartman
| noted that with the additional boot speed enhancements, his Moblin-based
| netbook can now boot the kernel in less than a second.
