two simple things to improve the user experience
,----[ Quote ]
| There's a lot of discussion about user
| experience around these days. That's good,
| though sometimes the focus is kept on
| solving "big issues" and a lot of the small
| everyday type things get missed. Here are
| two things that I personally run into a bit
| too regularly that can be easily improved on
| and which really do help with the user
| experience.

KDE4 Demonstrates Choice Is Not A Usability Problem
,----[ Quote ]
| In other words, the desktop morphs to the
| subjective preferences and personality of
| its user rather than trying to assume what
| most users want. If usability is to some
| extent in the eyes of the beholder, as I
| think it is, then such a desktop adapts to
| that reality and becomes a perfectly usable
| desktop not by the definition of a
| particular group of experts, but by the
| definition of the user standing in front of
| it.
|
| If that's the vision behind KDE 4, as it
| seems to be, then I think the potential is
| limitless. Of course, literal achievement of
| such a potential may be an unreachable
| ideal, at least with current technologies,
| but KDE 4 is making significant steps
| forward in that direction.

Camp KDE Talks Part Two
,----[ Quote ]
| The day started a bit late, but Guillermo Amaral really made up for it by
| providing us with a funny and interesting talk about the opportunities for
| the Business use of KDE in Mexico. He pointed out how important it is to
| handle cultural differences well, continuing the theme set by Pradeepto
| Adriaan and Till.

Camp KDE 2009 Takes Shape: Presentations Announced
,----[ Quote ]
| In October, I wrote about Camp KDE. This event was planned to complement
| Akademy, the traditional developer gathering for the KDE team, giving those
| unable to attend the former event (and specifically developers in the
| Americas) a better opportunity to gather and discuss projects.
