Linux development is amazingly fast.

Papers from the Real Time Linux Workshop

,----[ Quote ]
| There are far too many interesting Linux and
| free software conferences these days, so it
| would be difficultâreally, impossibleâto attend
| them all. Slides and videos of the talks can
| help fill in the gaps, but, for conferences
| with a more academic bent, the papers that are
| the basis of the presentations can give an even
| more detailed look. The papers from the
| recently concluded Real Time Linux Workshop are
| a good example; this article will briefly look
| at a few of them.

X.Org 7.6 May Be Released In October 2010

,----[ Quote ]
| On the same day of the first X Server 1.8
| snapshot being released, Sun's Alan
| Coopersmith who has been leading the X.Org 7.5
| katamari release efforts has shared his
| thoughts going forward for X.Org 7.6. X Server
| 1.7.1 should be released by week's end and
| X.Org 7.5 final should be out shortly
| thereafter. However, it's not likely that X
| Server 1.8 will be greeted by X.Org 7.6.

Intel On Rebuilding The X.Org Linux Desktop

,----[ Quote ]
| At FOSDEM 2009 in Keith Packard's talk on the rebuilt Linux desktop, he
| shared the progress made in composited 3D, monitor auto-plugging, 2D/3D/media
| shared objects, kernel mode-setting, and kernel-based 2D drawing. Allowing
| these problems to be addressed was the Graphics Execution Manager for kernel
| memory management. The Graphics Execution Manager was used instead of TTM
| (which we talked about several times before at Phoronix) and it allows for
| persistent objects, global name, and pageable contents.
