Blu-Ray Comes to Linux, Finally!

,----[ Quote ]
| For the Linux fans out there, today is a
| great day! Up until now, blu-ray playback
| support in Linux has been very complicated
| and quite an aggravating experience. First
| you would have to hope you had the right BD-
| ROM drive and that there was a hacked
| firmware for you to flash it with. Then you
| had to hope the correct AACS keys were out on
| the interwebs for the blu-ray disc you wanted
| to watch. Once you had the right drive and
| the right keys, you had to dump the entire
| blu-ray disc to your hard drive and play it
| from there.

xf86-video-intel 2.10.0 Brings Pineview Support

,----[ Quote ]
| Intel has just put out its quarterly update
| to their X.Org DDX driver. This new driver is
| xf86-video-intel 2.10.0 and it delivers on
| dropping all support for user-space mode-
| setting (using kernel mode-setting is now a
| must),

Xine-lib Update Improves A Bit For Blu-ray

,----[ Quote ]
| The developers behind the Xine multimedia
| player have announced the release of xine-
| lib 1.1.17. This isn't the major Xine 1.2
| library update that is expected to offer
| significantly better Blu-ray disc support
| along with support for NVIDIA's VDPAU
| interface, but the 1.1.17 release does
| carry some interesting features.

MPlayer Now Supports Most HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Codecs

,----[ Quote ]
| This news is coming a few days late
| (MPlayer's web-site lacks any RSS or
| syndication support), but the latest
| MPlayer code in their SVN trunk now
| supports most HD-DVD and Blu-ray codecs.
| Earlier this year we talked about possible
| Blu-ray support for FFmpeg and developers
| becoming more interested after we
| interviewed the FFmpeg developers and there
| ended up being an outpouring of support by
| our readers offering up Blu-ray drives and
| other forms of help.

FFmpeg Gains VDPAU MPEG-4 ASP Acceleration

,----[ Quote ]
| What we were in the process of writing
| about when we discovered MPlayer's support
| for most Blu-ray and HD-DVD codecs was that
| there is now support for MPEG-4 ASP
| decoding with VDPAU (NVIDIA's Video Decode
| and Presentation API for Unix) in the
| mainline FFmpeg tree.
