Why I use Arch Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| I came across a lengthy interview with the
| Arch Linux team, and having been using the
| distribution for the last several months, I
| thought I would write about my experiences and
| what makes it great for me.
|
| As those of you who have been reading this
| blog for a while already know, Kubuntu was
| previously my distribution of choice. To me,
| it was the perfect KDE distro and gave me the
| best that KDE had to offer with each release.

Arch Linux makes Linux fun to use again.

,----[ Quote ]
| Itâs been a month since I have installed Arch
| Linux on my workstation and I thought I would
| talk about this Linux distribution a bit. Arch
| Linux is pretty much all the rage these days in
| the world of Linux distributions. If we are to
| believe the famous Distrowatch stats that were
| recently published and compared with the data of
| 2008, Arch Linux is the fastest growing Linux
| distribution these days. It gained quite many
| users, probably at the expense of distributions
| like Gentoo, yet it is not usually considered to
| be an âuser-friendlyâ distribution. I will
| briefly outline what have been, and what is, my
| experience with Arch, and I believe I am going
| to stick with this particular flavor for a very
| long time.

Getting Started with Arch Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| Itâs hard to come up with an opinion about
| Arch, since Arch is what you make of it. I
| like that it gives so much control to the
| user when it comes to system
| configuration, but at times it feels like
| a little too much control. There are a few
| things that make you think âcome on, does
| this HAVE to be manual?â but the
| developers are clearly just trying to
| follow the Arch philosophy of giving the
| user all the control. In particular, it
| would be nice to have tools like hwd and
| aurbuild as part of the system, or at
| least available for installation through
| pacman. That may happen at some point as
| packages in AUR have a chance to be worked
| into the community repo eventually.
| Overall I think I like Arch and pacman,
| and I can see how it would make a great
| choice for systems that should be kept
| fast and clean.

Arch Linux 2009.8 Installation Visualization â VirtualBox

,----[ Quote ]
| Hereâs another visual walkthrough of an
| installation. This time of Arch Linux Core
| (Core has all the base packages on CD and you
| have the option for a network, or cd
| install), which is typically for the more
| advanced Linux users.
|
| Iâm not going to commentate per screenshot
| because well, itâd take me FOREVER. Iâll do a
| few though, and hope I donât get carried
| away.
