The Three Giants of Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| The Linux ecosystem is a complex entity. On
| one hand everyone gets along and benefits
| from work done by others, while on the other
| thereâs often animosity and conflict between
| distributions and their communities (remember
| when Ubuntu came along?).
|
| People often complain that there is simply
| too much choice in the Linux world and that
| weâd all be better off if there was just one,
| or two. However, nothing could be further
| from the truth.

The perfect linux distribution(for the desktop)

,----[ Quote ]
| I recently read a slashdot entry about Why
| Linux is not yet ready(there has been tons of
| those i know) and reading the comments i saw
| a lot of people arguing about different
| stuff, for example guys comparing the desktop
| and the server as if they were the same OS,
| in practicality is not, there are Linux
| distros for the server and power users and
| there are distros aimed at the Desktop.

Will the Decade's Best Distros Please Stand Up?

,----[ Quote ]
| Is Ubuntu actually good or merely popular?
| "It is either so bleeding edge it is a
| miracle the CD doesn't have stigmata, or it
| is really old packages that are never
| updated," blogger hairyfeet asserted.
| "Ubuntu has done more for Linux acceptance
| than any other distribution," countered
| blogger Martin Espinoza. "I'm a bit
| disenchanted with distros in general," said
| Slashdot blogger David Masover.

10 Best Linux Distributions / Distros in 2010

,----[ Quote ]
| Before telling you about the Best Linux
| Distributions or Distros available for 2010,
| you have to tell me what kind of user you
| are. There are several types of
| Distributions meant a particular working
| condition and there are also several types
| of Distros that are created for certain type
| of users. If you are choosing a Distro for
| family or friends, it should not be the same
| as that you would choose for a enterprise.
| And if you are a student, you have to be
| sure that the applications and resources
| that you require will be available from the
| distribution that you are choosing. Here I
| have tried to compile a list of the Best
| Distributions that are the bests for their
| capabilities on a particular domain. Have a
| look at the list.

5 Linux features I miss when on Windows.

,----[ Quote ]
| Always on top
| The ability to keep any window on top of all
| the others at any given time is a blessing
| Linux that I am yet to see on Windows. It
| comes in really handy when you need to have
| more than one window visible to get things
| done or when you want to be working but have
| VLC lurking on the lower part of the screen.
|
| [...]
|
| Multiple desktops
| On a typical day, I have about 6 worksheets
| open, with Google Chrome, Firefox,
| Thunderbird, and some other folders open. On
| Linux, in order not to clutter my desktop, I
| just move some of he open windows to another
| desktop and all is well with the world.
| Windows? Well I do not know of any such
| function.
|
| Reboot, Reboot and reboot
| Again, lots of applications I install tell me
| to reboot before the installation will be
| complete. If I make an installation of 5 such
| programs, it means for 5 times I have to
| reboot my system. Linux? Sudo-apt get install
| XYZ and bam, its done.
