Windows Phone 7 Series imitates Apple's iPhone in the worst ways

,----[ Quote ]
| For years, people have accused Microsoft of
| being an imitator, rather than innovator.
| Finally there is evidence: The ways Windows
| Phone 7 Series imitates the very worst of
| Apple's iPhone. Unless there is the
| strangest of coincidences -- like two
| students having the same wrong answers on a
| high school history test -- Microsoft is
| imitating Apple, using the same strategy to
| make the same mistakes. It's either
| imitation or incompetence, and out of
| fairness I assume the former.

Windows Phone 7 Rumours

,----[ Quote ]
| If rumours are to be believed, the Windows
| Phone 7 will not support multi-tasking, at
| least for third party applications, no
| removable storage, no copy-cut-and-paste
| and will have an application store that
| will only feature Microsoft approved apps.
| Does this sound familiar? It is just as if
| Microsoft used a 3D scanner and a 3D
| printer to create the exact same device
| from the fruit company.

Mozilla abandons Windows Mobile

,----[ Quote ]
| Mozilla's Mobile Team Technical Lead,
| Stuart Parmenter, has announced that
| Mozilla have put development of Firefox for
| Windows Mobile, also known as Fennec, on
| hold. Parmenter explained in a blog posting
| that although development on Firefox for
| Windows Mobile 6 and 6.5 had been
| progressing, the announcement of Windows
| Phone 7 Series by Microsoft â and
| Microsoft's closing off of native
| development for that platform â meant that
| it would not be possible to bring Firefox
| for Windows Mobile to Windows Phone 7
| Series. Parmenter said "Given that
| Microsoft are staking their future in
| mobile on Windows Mobile 7 (not 6.5) and
| because we don't know if or when Microsoft
| will release a native development kit, we
| are putting our Windows Mobile development
| on hold".

Dear Microsoft: Please Give Up on Mobile

,----[ Quote ]
| Dear Steve Ballmer, I believe it's time to
| give up development of a mobile operating
| system. With all due respect to the multi-
| billion dollar empire you're entrusted
| with running, the simple truth is that
| Microsoft is quite bad at developing user
| interfaces that are friendly and
| intuitive. Windows 7 is an improvement,
| but you're far from being out of the
| woods. What's more, it appears that your
| guidance, Mr. Ballmer, might be making the
| problem worse, especially if the things
| you said recently about your instructions
| to Windows Phone developers were true.

Skype drops its Windows Mobile app

,----[ Quote ]
| Ok, ok. Don't freak out--it looks like
| this is just a step towards supporting the
| new Microsoft mobile operating system and
| not a move showing Skype is quiting MS-
| based phones altogether. Skype has pulled
| their app for Window Mobile, meaning new
| users will not be able to download it.
| Users with the software already installed
| will still be able to use it. According to
| GigaOm, it appears the reasons are that
| the software never quite achieved the best
| possible consistent user experience and
| Skype has grown tired of supporting it
| when they could be focusing on making a
| killer app for the Windows Phone 7
| operating system.

Developers, save us from the Microsoft undead

,----[ Quote ]
| More software developers should follow the
| lead of Adobe and Skype, which have
| abandoned Windows Mobile -- what Microsoft
| now calls Windows Phone Classic.

Are you kidding me Microsoft? Why confuse with Windows Phone Starter Edition?

,----[ Quote ]
| Doesnât Microsoft think there is enough
| confusion with Starter Edition in Windows?
| Why bring this to the smartphone world
| where you need to get out a simple and
| memorable brand and experience to the
| consumer? What about the Classic Edition
| we heard about, is that for real too?

Microsoft is charging Windows Mobile developers indefinitely more than Apple and Google

,----[ Quote ]
| Can you believe that? Market share of Windows
| Mobile is sinking like Titanic, and
| competitors have tens of thousands of apps
| (compared to less than one thousand in Windows
| Mobile app store), plenty of which are not
| available at all (!) for Windows Mobile, and
| what is Microsoft doing?
|
| Microsoft is charging Windows Mobile
| developers indefinitely more than Apple and
| Google as you can see in this comparison...

Microsoft plays down Windows Mobile

,----[ Quote ]
| It isn't the first time that Microsoft has
| missed the boat - it was also a late starter
| in the Internet game - but the company has all
| but dropped the ball with its Windows Mobile
| operating system.

Microsoft Struggles to Extend Desktop Dominance to Mobile
