Windows Malware: The final straw that broke the penguin's back
,----[ Quote ]
| So this weekend, I popped in a brand-new
| 500GB hard drive, and installed the Ubuntu
| Lucid Lynx 10.04 release candidate, and
| never looked back. I copied in all of my
| personal data from my Windows 7 drive and
| installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 in
| VirtualBox. My love affair with Windows as
| my primary operating system is over.

Maintaining Linux in the home.
,----[ Quote ]
| Sure there is still a lot of focus on Linux
| for home use and there are many
| distributions who's target audience is for
| home users. I have recently written an
| article about such a distribution. I do
| feel that there is something missing in all
| the hype about Linux that is being spread
| around so I guess that that duty falls on
| me to say something about it.

| It does not matter where in the world this
| person may be. As an example, I live in
| Turkey and can just as easily service my
| Linux using relatives in Australia as I can
| my daughters laptop in the next room. The
| speed of internet connection is not
| important as anything from a text only mode
| to a full graphical environment can be
| used. I cannot imagine easily doing that
| with any other proprietary home targeted
| operating system.

Unixfication II

| My OpenSolaris 2008.05 write-up struck a chord with a bunch of folks in the
| community because the very title itself âWhat Ubuntu Wants to Be When it
| Groups Upâ was taken as an affront to Linuxâs maturity and the hard work and
| milestones accomplished by Ubuntu project and the Free Software communityâs
| efforts. While I will claim a mea culpa in that I wanted to title the piece
| with a headline that attracted attention, that was not the intended message
| here.

| The FSF has always referred to Linux as GNU/Linux. This isnât just Richard
| Stallman being bitter â this is the official name of which the Debian
| distribution, which forms the basis for Ubuntu, is referred to. It might be a
| little bit of a stretch, but what if the OpenSolaris kernel and many of its
| other components were to fall under the auspices of the Free Software
| Foundation? Surely, Sun would have to give up some control, but if you follow
| the natural course of things, GNU/Solaris is not out of the question.

Feeling the heat at Microsoft
,----[ Quote ]
| A couple of years ago you reiterated that IBM was Microsoft's biggest
| competitor and you said not just on the business side, but overall. If I ask
| you who is Microsoft's biggest competitor now, who would it be?
|
| Ballmer: Open...Linux. I don't want to say open source. Linux, certainly have
| to go with that.
