Solving an upgrade hitch en route to Ubuntu 10.04

,----[ Quote ]
| After waiting until after a weekend in the
| Isle of Man, I got to upgrading my main
| home PC to Ubuntu 10.04. Before the weekend
| away, I had been updating a 10.04
| installation on an old spare PC and that
| worked fine so the prospects were good for
| a similar changeover on the main box. That
| may have been so but breaking a computer
| hardly is the perfect complement to a
| getaway.

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) â packed with goodies.

,----[ Quote ]
| Download, burn, boot (a nice, fast boot!),
| and 20 minutes later I had a perfectly
| working Acer Aspire 4736Z running with
| Lucid Lynx. Sound, resolution, internet
| (including wireless!), webcam, and pretty
| much all my peripherals working out of the
| box. Well done. Kudos to the fact that I
| didnât actually install it, but left it to
| my rather technologically illiterate mum.

- From Karmic to Lucid: Distribution Update Screenshots

,----[ Quote ]
| In line with its newbie-friendly tradition
| of providing a way to do everything via a
| graphical user interface, Ubuntu provides a
| way to do a distribution upgrade by
| clicking a button at the top of the Update
| Manager. Since version 10.04 was released
| on April 29, it was once again time to see
| how well the upgrade went. Here are
| screenshots of the entire process. (Click
| the images for larger versions.)

Mark Shuttleworth: No GNOME-Shell in Maverick

,----[ Quote ]
| A condensed selection of highlights follow.
|
| * Maverick will not be coming with the
| GNOME Shell interface by default but
| will be available to download via the
| repos.
| * RGBA transparency will more than
| likely be enabled by default
| * Missing those indicator tooltips in
| Lucid? Well, they wonât be returning
| for the Meerkat.

Tracking The Performance Of Ubuntu 10.10

,----[ Quote ]
| With the development of Ubuntu 10.10
| (codenamed the "Maverick Meerkat") getting
| started and the Ubuntu Developer Summit
| coming up in just a matter of days, we have
| re-launched the Ubuntu Phoromatic Tracker
| to monitor the performance of Ubuntu 10.10
| on a daily basis.
|
| We originally launched the Phoromatic
| Ubuntu Tracker back in March that began
| tracking Ubuntu's performance on a daily
| basis late into Lucid's development cycle,
| but a package upgrade a few weeks into it
| had borked the installations. We have now
| loaded up clean installs of Ubuntu on the
| test systems that are now tracking the
| Ubuntu Maverick repository, albeit so far
| is just some updated GCC packages.
