Android 2.2 hits Nexus One -- so who's next?

,----[ Quote ]
| Numerous Nexus One users started receiving
| Google's Android 2.2 upgrade over-the-air on
| their devices Wednesday night. Gauging by
| users' reports, the updates appear to be
| hitting phones all throughout America, on
| both T-Mobile and AT&T, and on carriers in
| other countries as well. Users who were not
| part of the original Nexus One Froyo test
| group have received the software.

Google publishes Android 2.2 source code

,----[ Quote ]
| In a brief blog post, Google has announced
| that it has released the entirety of the
| source code for Froyo, better known as
| Android 2.2, under an open-source license.
| The open-source aspect of the release isn't
| new -- all previous platform iterations have
| been open-sourced too -- but there are a
| few extra modules in Froyo that have been
| opened up that had previously been closed-
| source.

They -- developers with access to code -- should remove the following user-controlling garbage:

Google Remotely Deletes Android Apps

,----[ Quote ]
| Google this week removed two applications
| from its Android Market, and exercised a
| feature that lets the company remotely
| delete the apps from a user's phones.
|
| Google did not reveal the names of these
| apps, and said only that they were "two free
| applications built by a security researcher
| for research purposes."

Exercising Our Remote Application Removal Feature

,----[ Quote ]
| Every now and then, we remove applications
| from Android Market due to violations of our
| Android Market Developer Distribution
| Agreement or Content Policy. In cases where
| users may have installed a malicious
| application that poses a threat, weâve also
| developed technologies and processes to
| remotely remove an installed application
| from devices. If an application is removed
| in this way, users will receive a
| notification on their phone.

A Week With Google Android 2.2: Froyo

,----[ Quote ]
| Googleâs new Android treat has been named
| âFroyoâ after frozen yogurt, and itâs nearly
| every bit as sweet as it sounds. Iâve been
| running a leaked Android 2.2 ROM on my Droid
| for a week now. Hereâs a few impressions and
| what VARs, SMBs and anyone in general using
| Android phones has to look forward to with the
| upcoming updateâ
|
| [...]
|
| Even though Iâm running a leaked ROM, itâs
| very stable. I can only see this getting p
| better. Whispers around the ânet are that
| Google is going to slow down their releases of
| Android updates, and focus on some solid
| polish before unleashing 2.3 (Gingerbread) to
| the world. But coming from a Droid which once
| ran Android 2.0, with no multi-touch and an
| unresponsive home screen? Android 2.2 is a
| breath a fresh air, especially for those with
| iOS 4 envy.

Android 2.2: Ready For Enterprise?

,----[ Quote ]
| Android 2.2 Froyo arrived with much fanfare on
| May 20 at Google's I/O conference. The new
| platform software for smartphones is chock
| full of new features, such as tethering and
| Wi-Fi hotspot services, faster performance,
| and Flash 10.1.

Android 2.2 review

,----[ Quote ]
| The latest Android 2.2 update, codenamed
| Froyo, brings a number of new features, but a
| couple of them stand head and shoulders above
| the rest. While the latest version of Google's
| open-source mobile operating system isn't
| widely available on handsets at present, we've
| been testing it on a Nexus One, Google's own
| brand smartphone.

Automatic App Updating Coming in Android 2.2

,----[ Quote ]
| One Android feature that our readers have
| been asking for is the ability to update
| all applications and games to the latest
| release. It's not uncommon for the
| average user to see 15 or more
| notifications a day indicating new versions
| of downloaded apps.

Android 2.2 to include WiFi hotspot creation and tethering

,----[ Quote ]
| Google has been working diligently on its
| Android phone OS, and update 2.2 is coming
| up quite soon. So far, the Linux-derived
| phone OS is selling well, recently thought
| to have overtaken the iPhone in monthly
| sales.
