Music

Artists

I listen to a wide range of musical genres. In the past two years I spent a significant amount of time listening to Portuguese/Brazilian music, namely Anotonio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz to name a few.

My main passion lies within Swing, Jazz and Easy-listening. Artists whose music I frequently listen to include (in arbitrary order):

  • Ella Fitzegerald
  • Frank Sinatra
  • Mel Tormé
  • Louis Armstrong
  • Nat King Cole
  • Miles Davis
  • Spike Jones
  • Alan Sherman
  • Les Paul
  • Fats Waller
  • Louis Prima
  • Tommy Dorsey
  • Glenn Miller
  • Benny Goodman
  • George Gershwin
  • Tony Bennett
  • Diana Krall
  • Peggy Lee
  • Andy Williams
  • David Whitfield
  • Dinah Shore

Other artists I listen to, who associate themselves with other music trends are: Burt Bacharach, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Sting, The Carpenters, The Jackson 5, Barry White, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Dionne Warwick (and the list goes on and on).

Since the age of 14 I have been fond of another type of music -- R&B. Amongst my favourite groups I would have to name Blackstreet, Boys II Men, Jodeci and Dru Hill (ordered by precedence).

From top to bottom: Melvin Howard Tormé, Francis Albert Sinatra, Benny Goodman, João Gilberto and Glenn Miller.

Instruments

As a child, I briefly studied how to play the piano. I never took this seriously, so all effort are fruitless to this date. We were also taught how to play the flute around the age of 10. None of these are worth elaborating on. Singing and dancing (possibly my favourite) must have taken priority, but I often look back and realise that I should have learned (at least) one musical instrument properly.
