I'm going to plump for the obvious - install the ssh server. Ubuntu doesn't
have it installed by default as part of it's 'no listening ports by
default' policy. It's on the CD though, so a simple:

sudo apt-get install openssh-server

should fix it. Alternatively, if you prefer using the GUI install the same
package using synaptic.
