It shouldn't, but keep backups of your PIM data files. Also make sure you use
the same user profile with both devices and synchronise both frequently
enough to avoid collions.

They should be, but your older model will get confused by newer 'notions'
like categories in DateBook. Be very careful and double-check the validity
and integrity of your data as you go along.

I think the OP did the correct thing, but I am very worried that some data
may get corrupted or inconsistent. OP: make sure you back up your data
(progressively) so that you can 'fall back' and revert to older state, shall
it be needed.
