When I did this for a friend with Ubuntu 5, I needed to (unless I was just
being silly) set it up it from the non-graphical installer. It was not at
all trivial because I took the 'expert' route (default wipes wipe drive)
with the installation CD. For a moment there, I actually had the partition
table corrupted. As it turns out, simpler routes are already out there,
which is encouraging. Eventually, my friend chose Mandriva 2006 and had
Ubuntu replaced. For each his/her own... he never saw Linux beforehand.
