Mainframes to address new 'workload,' says IBM
,----[ Snippets ]
| MAINFRAMES will stay but will continue to evolve to address new types
| of applications or "workloads" that customers demand today, an IBM
| executive said.
|
| "Mainframes were traditionally a general-purpose platform. They now have
| evolved to include specialized engines that can run Linux, Java, and other
| applications," the executive added.
|
| Bliss said that IBM's internal figures indicate that around 60 percent of
| mainframe revenues are now derived from running new workloads such as
| Linux, Java, database applications, and recently, service-oriented
| architecture-type of systems.
