I suppose you have already heard about them stepping up to compete with:

        * Cisco et al (routing)

        * Intel/AMD/Sun/IBM (processors)

        * Apple (media players and store)

        * Others... cable, electricity, Gates' investment in hotels
                
This is insane! Less is more. They refuse to concentrate on a niche because
their bread and butter (Windows and Office) are slowly and gradually losing
their attraction. Integration of the elements above is hard, and it leads to
confusion, lack of focus, and lack of direction. Don't even take /my/ word
for it. Listen to Microsoft's own leaders.
